Very wide range of orchids and palette of colors both on the flowers and butterflies. Pleasant for the eyes. At some hours there are too many people though, all trying to snap a selfie which is a bit annoying.
What a wonderful peek back into a different life where fortunes were made resulting in the building of estates. The Bantry House was once a magnificent home with gardens that were beyond compare. The still standing house reveals Georgian architecture and both formal and informal gardens. It’s difficult to imagine that this was a home as it’s more of a showcase. The house is a B&B but also has areas which are open to the public to enjoy as well.
Although the gardens rely on volunteers to keep them going it isn’t difficult to envision what they must’ve looked like in their zenith. In some respects the grounds remind me of the grounds of the Blarney castle.
A tip if you visit, is to know that there is a pathway with a series of switchbacks that will take you to the top of the 100 steps garden. When you arrive at the top the vista overlooking the grounds and Bantry Bay is overwhelming!
