In 1972 US airforce C-47 SkyTrain (Dakota) crashed on the Sólheimasandur black sand beach near Vik, Island. This is a great place to take photos since there is a surprising amount of it left. No one lost their lives so it is not spooky, just odd to see sitting there on the wild beach.

Enlisted sailors would use the berth deck for sleeping, eating, and recreation. The hammocks are preferred because they are lighter, easily replaced, and move separately from the movement of the ship. Hammocks for the crew could be more comfortable than bunks for the officers.
The crew ate and relaxed separately from the officers when they were off duty. The tables and benches are bolted to the deck to prevent them from shifting in heavy seas.
This is the largest open space aboard TORSK. The crew took their meals here, 24 men at a time, with 10 minutes to eat their meal before the next group rotated in.
