The visitor center was closed when we visited (COVID19). The visitor center is designed to show respect to the residents from Japan and demonstrate the building materials of wood frame and tar paper used during this time. The fence is still in place and a representative guard station mark the entrance. There is a lot of history and emotion at this site. The park has worked hard to preserve what they could. It is a good investment in time to learn and to experience this chapter of our history.
Nineteen people live in Nicodemus, KS. All of them are descendants of the colony who traveled from Lexington, KY to own free land and prosper. I met two of those descendants today during a walking tour. Fascinating stories.
Very neat historic site. unfortunately they were closed due to covid but we were able to drive around and look ams then fb message them any her our stamp later.
My wife and I enjoyed an afternoon stroll around the battle field. As you can see, we aren’t always able to enjoy exploring all national parks together. The paved paths are very well maintained and the area is beautiful.

Starting to get into the presidents where their childhood home is not impressive. As far as the presidential birthplaces/childhood homes go, this is probably bottom of the list. This is a place to go to because you need the stamp. Nothing else really to see or do here.
