Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup, South Dakota
View Original Description
Watch cowboys and cowgirls as they roundup and drive the herd of approximately 1,300 buffalo. Each fall, the ground rumbles and the dust flies in Custer State Park at the annual roundup, held the last Friday in September. It is open to the public. Not only is the roundup a spectacular sight to see, it is also a critical management tool in maintaining a strong and healthy herd.
This 71,000-acre state park is also home to one of the world's largest publicly-owned bison herds, nearly 1,300 strong.
