Kumoterki is a festival involving races where people are on skis or sleds behind a horse. It is held each year in Bukowina Tatrzańska, Poland. Kumoterki are small, plaited or wood, often decorated sleigh. Their name comes from the highland determine godparents: kum and kumoska.In the past, when Zakopane nearest church was in Szaflary, just such a sleigh they were carrying the baby for baptism kumotrzy.
Today christening of the Highlanders look like in the lowlanders, and so the kumoterki lost its function. Typically, throughout the year they stand somewhere in a shed or under a thatched roof cottages highland. But not forgotten about them! For over twenty years in Podhale during the carnival they are organized kumoterskie gońby and parades farm. These very colorful sports events often last for two months, concentrating around them not only most of the mountaineers-horsemen, but also a lot of tourists who do not often have the opportunity to meet the Highlanders playing in a real highland event. Gazdowska first parade was held in 1983. Then it took off only five sleds, but the next year on the start line were in place 10 teams. In subsequent years, this number is growing. Today, parades and Gonbach you can enjoy dozens of Kumoterki and more than a hundred players skiringu and ski-skiringu.
Bukowina Tatrzańskais a small village in southern Poland, close to the border with Slovakia. It lies approximately 14 kilometres (9 mi) north-east of Zakopane and 80 km (50 mi) south of the regional capital Kraków.
