Attend Lemon Festival (Fête du Citron), Menton, France

More than 200,000 visitors from every corner of the globe descend upon the peaceful village of Menton in the Cote d’Azur region of France for the Lemon Festival held between the middle of February and early March each year. The Fete du Citron presents a different topical theme for each annual event held during the time of the year when the abundant blossoming citrus trees creates an aromatic nirvana. The Jardins de Lumières (Gardens of Light) which fill the Biovès Gardens with fairy tale presentations of sound and light is also presented twice each festival week. Exhibitions highlighting the prolific local citrus industry are hosted in the Palais de l’Europe. A very popular arts and craft fair, the Salon de l’Artisanat presents a cornucopia of the traditional products of the region that are inspired by lemons and other citrus fruit such as soaps and perfumes, jams, jellies, honey and liqueurs, ceramics and glass engravings among other souvenirs and consumeables. A children’s carnival is also among the festival offerings along with Orchid exhibits. Menton is located only 30 minutes from the airport in Nice, France and since the festival typically finds accommodations in Menton fully booked, the ample options in the surrounding area provide a broad range of alternatives. The coastal train route comfortably transports festival goers from Nice.
