The Slinningsbålet Bonfire in Ålesund, Norway occurs on the clostest Saturday to midsummer or Saint John’s Eve (June 23rd) at 9:00 pm.
Local youth build entirely by hand the structure, which reaches 40-50 meters. The building process is carried out without tools or machinery. The teenagers work on the bonfire every evening after school.
It achieved a Guinness World Record in 2016, reaching an impressive height of 47.4 metres — though the record was surpassed in March 2019.
