Baja 1000, Baja California, Mexico
View Original Description
SCORE International Off Road Racing stages one of the most unique motor vehicle races in the world called the Baja 1000. This event is contested over a 1,000 mile off-road course in Baja California, Mexico starting in the west coast city of Ensenada and terminating at the finish line in La Paz on the east coast of BCS. The divisions provide for various types of vehicles including motorcycles, production vehicles, dune buggies, trucks and specially modified vehicles that attempt to navigate over some of the most rugged terrain in the world. The official rules point out that obstacles include “cows, calves, bulls, horses and goats roaming freely” and that “spectators on or near the course may engage in malicious activities...”. Motorsports enthusiasts from all over the world would be wise include the Baja 1000 on their dream list either as a participant (if you dare!) or as a spectator.
The race is usually held in November of each year affording some tolerable temperatures in the Sonoran desert as it is late fall in the Northern Hemisphere. Participating in the Baja 1000 as a contestant or spectator is worthy of consideration for any dreamer that is into Off-Road racing. Start planning that trip to Mexico and make sure you catch the race while you are there.
