Attend The Open Championship ("British Open")

A trip to the British Isles to see The Open Championship, the oldest championship in all of golf, annually contested on one of England’s or Scotland’s links courses could be the zenith of your golfing dream. The tournament is staged by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and rotates between nine of the greatest courses in the world with the exact location known at least 3 years in advance. One of golf’s four Major Championships, The Open is just that; open to professionals and amateurs alike. Qualifying tournaments are staged all over the world and if a golfer qualifies, he’s in. The various tracks where the tournament is played are typically hard and fast with all sorts of nasty hazards, not the least of which may be the weather. It’s not good enough for the winner to be able to golf his ball but he must also be able to overcome the sometimes severe conditions. The victor will ultimately hoist the Claret Jug, the trophy awarded the “The Golf Champion”, upon conclusion of the tournament which very well might be that player’s greatest achievement. Attending an Open Championship to witness that historic happening may be the dream you’d like to check of your list.
