BASE Jump or Wingsuit
Troll Wall, Norway
View Original Description
The extreme sports enthusiast dreaming of that ultimate adrenaline rush may very well find satisfaction in strapping on a wingsuit and a parachute for the purpose of BASE jumping the Troll Wall in Norway’s Romsdallen Valley. The Troll Wall boasts the tallest vertical face in Europe (over 1,100 metres) with the summit ridge overhanging the base by 50 metres. Trollveggen, as the wall is known by the locals, has seen at least 8 jumpers die in their descents since Carl Boenish, known as the “father” of BASE jumping, lost his life on the Troll Wall soon after setting the mark for the highest BASE jump ever recorded.
Keeping in mind that BASE jumping from Trollveggen can be punished by the local officials through the imposition of large fines and perhaps the loss of equipment the jumps continue to be popular among locals and tourists nonetheless. If fulfilling your dreams includes flying off a Scandinavian mountain top dependent upon a few pieces of silk to insure your safe landing, adding a visit to the Troll Wall to your bucket is in order.
