Birding around
Churchill, Manitoba, Canada
View Original Description
Churchill is a destination for bird watchers from late May until August. Each year, 10,000-12,000 eco-tourists visit, about 400-500 of whom are birders.
Birders have recorded more than 270 species within a 25 mi (40 km) radius of Churchill, including Snowy Owl, Tundra Swan, American Golden Plover, Whimbrels, Hudsonian Godwits, Arctic Terns and Gyrfalcon.
Plus, more than 100 birds, including Parasitic Jaeger, Smith's Longspur, Stilt Sandpiper, and Harris's Sparrow, nest there. Ross's Gulls are one the most sought after birds at Churchill.
June is the best time to visit Churchill, but go in the last week of May if you want to see rarer early migrants. July is also a good time to go.
