Bouldering at Buttermilks, Bishop, California
The Buttermilks, or Buttermilk Country is a well known bouldering destination on the western edge of the Owens Valley near Bishop, California, in the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The area has over 60 roped routes and also includes scrumbling. Some boulders are huge, so shade at those spots in the peak of summer.
The Buttermilks are located 20 mins west of Bishop. Head off of the 395 going through Bishop and turn west onto West Line Street (Highway 168) and head out of town for 7.7 miles. Then right turn onto unpaved Buttermilk Road and continue west for about 3.5 miles.
