Bouldering
Gunsmoke Traverse, Joshua Tree National Park, California
View Original Description
Gunsmoke Traverse (V3) is a classic boulding site in Joshua Tree National Park. This L-shaped boulder is usually done from left to right. Start as far left as possible, move right along the wall for about 50 feet. It can get pretty crowded here. If it is check out The Chubb (V2). It's in a group of three boulders a little further up the trail and to the left from Gunsmoke.
The trail starts at the Barker Dam trailhead. Take the first fork in the trial to the left. Shortly after taking the left fork you will see a sign reading "Climbers Access to Gunsmoke Area." After climbing up some stone steps and a short hike through a sandy area you will see an open area known as Gunsmoke.
