Off-road or Mountain Bike Horse Thief Canyon Road, Arizona

This bumpy but mostly easy ride follows the bed of Horse Thief Wash through Lake Mead NRA backcountry up to the base of Wilson Ridge, where it dead-ends into a sandy and primitive campground and hiker access to Mount Wilson Wilderness Area. The road gets narrow in parts and has several large rocks sticking up in the middle, but a high-clearance vehicle (or good mountain bike) should be fine as long as the weather is good. Access: Horse Thief Canyon Road is located at mile marker 4.1 along Hwy 93 at the White Rock Canyon Trailhead parking lot. TIPS: Watch for a brown backcountry sign giving the name of the road and a numbered yellow arrow. Driving on roads without signs marked by a yellow arrow is prohibited. Campground is sandy. Vehicles can get stuck. Campsite is primitive. Fee to enter Lake Mead NRA
