Camp at Garnet Mountain Fire Lookout, Montana
Garnet Mountain Fire Lookout sits on the apex of Garnet Mountain south of Bozeman, Montana. It is the only fire lookout for rent on the Gallatin National Forest and offers outstanding views of the surrounding mountain landscape. A fire lookout has existed on Garnet Mountain since 1930. The current structure was built in 1962.Access is by foot, ATV, ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile. It is a strenuous 2,800 foot elevation gain to the lookout via Trail 85. In the summer distance is between 3-4 miles depending on route chosen. In the winter it can be up to 10 miles depending on weather conditions.
It has bunks with mattresses; wood-burning stove; two-burner stove (BYO propane). Reservations Required (more than 3 nights in advance of your stay), Walk-Ins Welcome. $30/night
