Canyoneer
Knox Gorge, Karijini National Park, Western Australia
View Original Description
The initial hike in Knox Gorge is a 2km, 3 hour loop walk along the gorge. There are several pools along the way until you reach the "Gorge Risk Area" sign which marks the end of the journey if you did not bring canyoneering gear (and experience).
A narrow steep 30m section goes until the bottom drops out which is the top of the Knox Slide. There are two decent options. You can either use ropes to make the 35m decent or take the slide where the last 12m is a vertical drop into a semi large pool. Take the easy swim to the slot exit from this pool where another vertical drop of about 7m into another cliff-ringed pool. It's required to rappel the pool since it is usually only knee-deep in the landing area. For this rappel there are bolts installed in the left wall.
Continue along the slots swimming in the deeper water. Upong existing you emerge into the much broader Red Gorge.
