Canyoneering
Lower Eardley Canyon, San Rafael Swell, Utah
View Original Description
Lower Eardley Canyon has many pools and requires a fair bit of effort for a short technical section. Start at the Eardley Canyon trailhead. 100-yards beyond the "No Vehicles beyond this point" signs there are two very good petroglyph panels on the right side of the canyon. About 2.25 miles From the Trailhead to Eardley Canyon is 2 1/4 miles to the mouth of Eardley Canyon. From here walk back downstream 50-feet and begin climbing up the face of the reef on the northeast side of Eardley Canyon.
The trail to enter the canyon passes by the exit. As such simply return to your car by the same trail you entered. It will require approximately 7 hours to complete. The water is bathtub warm during hot weather; a wetsuit will be required during cool weather.
This is one of the closest Colorado Plateau canyons to Salt Lake City, which makes it appealing to a large number of canyoneers.
Eardley Canyon trailhead offers primitive camping. A four wheel drive or high clearance vehicle is required to reach the actual trailhead.
