Staircase of the King of Aragon is a steep, narrow rock staircase leading down to the sea, offering unique water & boat views. 187 steps down and up! with an inclination of about 45° and a height of 65 meters!
Carved by man directly into the limestone, the staircase of the King of Aragon was, according to legend, dug in just one night by the troops of the King of Aragon during the siege of Bonifacio in 1420 . More probably dug over a longer period by the Franciscan monks to access the Saint-Barthélémy spring located in a cave at the foot of the cliff, it is listed as a Historic Monument
