Climb Michielli-Strobel via Ferrata, Italian Dolomites

Climbing the Michielli Strobel via Ferrata at the Pomagagnon mountain group in the Italian Dolomites rewards the mountaineer with well-earned impressive views of the Cortina valley ranging below along with a true sense of accomplishment. The top of Punta Fiames (2,240 meters) on the western most crag of Michielli Strobel is accessed by a via Ferrata (“iron road”) that is equipped with permanent cables on the steepest grades between relatively benign footpaths. The routing is considered a level 3 on the ascending scale of 1 to 5 but with the breaks afforded by the easy walking trail sections, the wire ropes that must be used on the steepest parts makes this a good challenge for those just learning to flex their climbing muscles or as a warm up for tougher pursuits. The descending route is through a gully making for a relatively quick return to the starting point. Climbers should plan on 5 to 6 hours to complete the loop. Michielli Strobel via Ferrata is best reached from the northern section of the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo located in the bottom of an alpine valley in the Veneto region. Cortina can be reached by automobile via the Autobahn that crosses the Brenner Pass or from airports in nearby Bolzano, Italy or those more distant in Venice, Marco Polo, Teviso or Innisbruck, Austria. Your dream to complete some of the world’s most extreme hikes needs the adventure to Climb Michielli Strobel via Ferrata added to your list. Plan to explore some other nearby challenges while breathing in the breathtaking beauty of the Italian Dolomites.
