Cruise Australia & New Zealand

The island countries of Australia and New Zealand make perfect destinations for cruise ships whether as part of an extended cruise covering vast portions of the world or localized cruises with their beginning and end in either country. Because Australia and New Zealand are located a good distance from most major population centers, the countries maintain an air of mystery and pop up regularly on the “must visit” lists of travelers. Most of the inhabitants of each country are located in cities on or near the coastline insuring that those choosing to visit either or both countries during a cruise are able to access most of the top attractions near frequently visited Ports of Call. Cruise lines also offer add-on excursions to provide opportunities to tour the regions not readily accessible from Port cities such as the Australian Outback and the many wonderful natural sites throughout the inland districts in New Zealand. The Primary Ports of Call in Australia include Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns, Hobart, Newcastle, Darwin, Brisbane and the Great Barrier Reef, Adelaide, and Perth. Cruising around New Zealand may offer stops in Tauranga, Napier, Picton, Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Milford Sound and the Bay of Islands. The most popular cruises find travelers flying into Sydney, Australia or Auckland, New Zealand before embarking on 10 to 24 day cruises with stops in any number of the popular Ports. Another option for cruising the waters surrounding these island countries involves re-positioning cruises for ships in transit to or from North America or Asia to meet the demand during the high season for cruising “Down Under” during the Southern Hemisphere’s Summer and Fall (November to March). Australia and New Zealand are also popular legs of world cruises and are regularly included on those itineraries. Opportunities for shorter cruises on smaller vessels that call the waters of the region home year round that may be combined with an extended land based tour are also popular. Both countries present modern cities with a great number of historical sites, galleries, theaters, museums, zoos, botanical gardens and wonderful indigenous wildlife. Excursions for snorkeling or diving in any number of famous locations or visiting iconic beaches, memorable golf courses and nearby offshore islands are typically offered as diversions while the ships are in port. You might just be able to cross 2 or 3 important dreams off your list by taking a cruise in the South Pacific to include visits to Ports of Call in Australia and New Zealand. This trip of a lifetime may allow you to see a great deal more of both of these countries than you could possibly manage with a land based holiday. Start searching for that ideal itinerary today.
