Known as the Queen of Creole Cuisine, Chase promoted African-American art and Creole cooking. Her restaurant, Dooky Chase, was known as a gathering place during the 1960s among many who participated in the Civil Rights movement. The lunch buffett is of modest size, maybe 15 items, including the various vegetables and a salad section.
If you want to get a sneak peek at southern politics, you might just end up sitting at a table next to some obvious New Orleans politicians, as they do frequent Dooky's. Just be careful what you hear...
