Dine at
La Golondrina, Cabo San Lucas
View Original Description
A must when in Cabo! Beautiful strings of mini lights provide a "ceiling" over the outdoor seating, they are scattered throughout the trees and bushes giving it a feeling of romance. Live mariachi music fills the air, fresh seafood and Mexican items on menu... it doesn't get much better for ambiance. Traditional Mexican dishes here; flautas, enchiladas, chile verde, tacos, shrimp and scallops as well as lobster and steaks.
For decades, La Golondrina was affectionately known by locals and regular visitors simply as "The Trailer Park".
The site where La Golondrina stands is the oldest building in Cabo San Lucas. In 1896, a trader named Julio Gomez built a trading post there. Gomez was nicknamed "La Golondrina" because he returned faithfully from mainland Mexico to restock his post at the same time the swallows returned to the Mission San Juan Capistrano each year.
When the Transpeninsular Highway was completed in 1973, it opened the 1,000-mile peninsula to middle-class road trippers, van lifers, and RV enthusiasts. During this era, Cabo became a hub for "trailer park" culture.
Today, while the trailers are gone, La Golondrina remains famous for its massive portions of lobster and grilled fish, served in the same romantic garden courtyard that once welcomed the first wave of highway travelers.
