La Parguera, Puerto Rico
View Original Description
La Parguera, Puerto Rico is a sleepy town that centers around its mangrove water front. The big attraction for travelers is the scuba diving on the wall, kayaking, snorkeling and exploring the 30 or so mangrove keys in the bay around the area.
Some of the main dive sites in the area are:
Efra's Wall near Ensenada, Puerto Rico where you will find black coral, spotted eel ray, baracuda, moray eels, slipper lobsters, crabs, schooling black durgeons and plenty of colorful fish. This dive begins at 55 feet and descends down to well over 100.
Fallen Rock is one of the area's most sought after dive sites - even if it's about a 45-minute trip out of La Parguera (12 minutes from Playa Santa by boat). Fallen Rock was described by Scuba Diving magazine as "one of the area’s most sought after dive sites." The site has a V-shaped notch in a wall, with a bus-shaped, coral-covered boulder that broke off and formed a pinnacle. It's a deep dive, with the top of the reef at 65 feet, and dropping well past 100. See open-water pelagics like mackerels, jacks, barracuda and spotted eagle rays.
Black Wall is a deep wall dive, ranging from 60 feet to well over 150 feet. Divers will find black coral forest, large red and black gorgonians and yellow and purple tube sponges. Hogfish, black durgons and triggerfish are the most common creatures here.
