Mingo Cay is an island of the United States Virgin Islands. Mingo Cay is the middle of a set of three cays of Saint John. The cay is a short boat ride from Cruz Bay. The western end of Mingo has a nice drift dive through a well developed coral canyon. Good snorkeling in calm conditions. Good scuba diving starts in 15 feet and continues out to 65 feet. At this point, the coral stops and a sand bottom takes over. Reef cover is heavy and healthy. Although the area abounds with smaller tropicals, we have found a surprising absence of larger fish, an absence accounted for, perhaps, by the fish traps we noted in the area.
