Dive or Snorkel
Niihau Island (The Forbidden Isle), Hawaii
View Original Description
Privately owned Ni'ihau measures 6 by 19 miles, with fewer than 200 residents. Until 1987 it was generally off-limits to all but relatives of the island's owners, U.S. Navy personnel, government officials and invited guests. The dives around Ni'ihau and neighboring Lehua Rock are among the best in Hawaii.
The 33-mile (2.5 hours) ride from a dock on the south shore of Kauai to Lehua Rock, on the north side of Ni'ihau, isn't too bad.
There are a few dive opperators out of Kauai offering dive trips to the island.
