Dive The Cathedrals, Lanai, Hawaii
The Cathedrals, two dive sites located southeast of Hulopoe Bay, Lanai, are large underwater lava tubes that form large swimmable caverns. The main attraction of First Cathedral is the huge, two-story tall underwater cavern – or lava tube – consisting of tunnels, ridges and passageways. A portion of the roof collapsed, leaving a large hole in the top.
On sunny days, rays of light enter openings creating a stained glass effect reminiscent of windows in a cathedral.
