Dive with
Great White Shark off Neptune Islands, Australia
View Original Description
One of the best places to dive with great whites is Australia’s Neptune Islands, which lie off the south of the country, 70 kilometres from Port Lincoln. The Islands' large headland supports a major New Zealand Fur Seal colony as well as the rarer and more endangered Australian Sea Lion. Both calving colony areas exist relatively West of the Southern island. In turn, the presence of these two colonies of sea mammals supports a migratory population of both Great White sharks & Bronze Whalers.
Part of the film Jaws was filmed here by famed shark-attack survivor Rodney Fox.
The best time of year for viewing great white sharks is from May through to October. At this time the seal pups that were born in the summer months start leaving the safety of the shore and therefore make an easy food supply for the sharks.
