Arcana Brewing Company, a craft nanobrewery in Carlsbad, cranks out deliciously potent porters, approachable English milds, roasty stouts, and strapping strong ales. Being a small 3.5-barrel brewhouse, founder and head brewer Daniel Guy crafts what he wants, experiments with flavors, and serves up his creations at their peak quality. Arcana’s best-selling ales include Voyager English IPA, Tiny Tim Cream Ale, and Marley’s Ghost.
If the names sound mysterious and fantastical, it’s because they are. Guy’s affinity for steampunk – a subculture of science fiction centered around steam-powered machinery and industrialized Western civilization – is evident in both the beer names and the tasting room décor with its assortment of ancient-looking cogs, skulls and Victorian candelabras lining the brewery’s walls.
No one under the age of 21 is allowed in the tasting room, but well-behaved dogs and cats on leashes are permitted. Okay to bring in your own food.
