Owning a brewery has been a longtime dream of home brewer and wine maker Tom Vogel’s, so when he found the right team to finally make that dream a reality, he immediately got to work establishing his very own production brewery and tasting room in Vista. Before even finding a brewery location or purchasing brewing equipment, Vogel, his business partner Dave Mobley, and their head brewer Troy Smith had already contracted their hops and had a list of recipes in mind for the launch. That mindset of prioritizing the quality of the beer first paid off in the form of four gold medal wins at the 2014 World Beer Championships for the brewery’s “Beaver’s Milk” Milk Stout, “Rabid Beaver Bite” Rye IPA, “Dammed!” Double IPA, and “Ol’ Dirty” Russian Imperial Stout. For a taste of some of these award-winning creations, visit Belching Beaver Brewery’s tasting room on Monday from 4:30-8 p.m., Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., Thursday from 4-9 p.m., Friday from 3-9 p.m., Saturday 1-9 p.m. or Sunday from 1-7 p.m.
