This Oceanside brewery is the perfect place to enjoy a SoCal beach beer in a casual environment. Just steps away from the sand and surf, Breakwater Brewing is a relaxing sanctuary for local beer lovers to chill out with a cold craft brew in hand. Brewmaster Lars Gilman – a native San Diegan – first learned the art of home brewing in Chicago in 1988. More than a decade later, Gilman really dove into his passion for brewing, attending classes on brewing technology at the Seibel Institute of Chicago and working at Goose Island Brewery where he got his first taste of brewing on a commercial scale. Just one year later, Gilman returned to his hometown where he brewed for Stone Brewing Company before opening up shop at Hydrobrew, a homebrewing and hydroponics supply store in Oceanside. In 2010, Gilman became head brewer at Breakwater, where he quickly proved his worth, winning gold at the San Diego International Beer Festival for his DMJ IPA. Breakwater Brewing is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
