Longstanding craft beer legend, Karl Strauss Brewing Company, got its start right out of this downtown San Diego location in 1989, marking the very spot where San Diego’s thriving craft beer culture and Karl Strauss’ empire was born. The original on-site brewery where the legendary Master Brewer Karl Strauss himself brewed his first batches of the heralded Red Trolley Ale and Karl Strauss Amber remains in full operation today and still cranks out craft brew favorites that withstand the test of time. The downtown brewpub crafts a fresh lineup of brews that pair perfectly with the restaurant’s West Coast pub fare. This Karl Strauss location features 10 craft beers on tap, cask nights on Thursdays, and a series of rotating special release brews from its brewhouse. Brewery tours are available by reservation. Karl Strauss’ bar is open from Monday through Thursday from 11 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to midnight, Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
