Drink Beer at Modern Times Beer, San Diego, California
Modern Times Beer in Point Loma likes to mix and mash a hybrid of styles, flavors and characteristics that lead to innovative new handcrafted brews that can range from full-bodied chocolate stouts to subtly fruity dry amber ales with a hop profile that would rival that of a double IPA. Flagship beers include the mildly nutty and malty, yet intensely bright and citrusy Fortunate Islands Wheat, the thirst-quenching and rustic Lomaland saison, and the self-proclaimed hoppy and dank Blazing World Amber.
Treating his brewery like a testing ground where he gets to drink his mistakes, founder and brewer Jacob McKean and his brewing team encourage exploration in craft beer styles, flavor profiles and characteristics, often releasing special releases, seasonals and one-off batches that are each wildly distinct and packed with complex flavor.
Modern Times Beer’s tasting room is open every day from noon to 9 p.m. Tours are available every Saturday at 1 p.m. and Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
