Outside the hustle and bustle of the city is Nickel Beer Company in the historic mining town of Julian. Flowing from the tasting room’s 12 taps are popular house brews like the rich, dark Filthy Paws Porter, the clean, drinkable Julian Pale Ale, and malty, hoppy Devil’s Copper. To pay homage to Julian’s hallmark, Nickel Beer Company’s spiced Apple Pie Ale comprises of 60 gallons of raw apple cider from nearby Calico Ranch, as well as hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice and clove. Cask-conditioned brews are also often available at Nickel Beer Company’s tasting room for those seeking an authentic taste of some of the brewery’s unfiltered, unpasteurized selections. Nickel Beer Company’s outdoor beer garden is dog-friendly, and they’ll even treat your beloved four-legged friend to a taste of locally-baked gourmet dog treats made with the brewery’s spent grain. The tasting room is open Thursday from 2-6 p.m., Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
