Espresso in Italy
View Original Description
Drinking coffee in Italy has been elevated to a cultural experience. Espresso Bars (no coffee shops, please) dispense the aromatic black liquid in tiny cups enjoyed by Italians and visitors throughout the day. Very little regionalism exists in the style and preparation of espresso drinks from one end of Italy to the other. Coffee drinks ordered in Milan have the same flavor and aroma as an espresso ordered in Rome. Beans of the highest quality, always roasted to perfection insure the consistency.
The most popular Espresso Drinks in Italy begin with Caffè, unadulterated black coffee served in a miniature cup known as a “tazzina” is the most basic. The Caffè Macchiato adds steamed milk, typically frothed, to the tazzina changing the color to a creamy brown. The Caffè Macchiato Freddo is served with a carafe of warm milk on the side to be added to the espresso based on the taste of the customer. A Cappuccino, often replicated in other parts of the world, is served in a larger cup, a Tazza, with a generous amount of frothy, steamed milk creating a generous 2nd layer. Italians, unlike coffee drinkers in other parts of the world, rarely drink Cappuccino after 11:00 am or with a meal. In Italy, the Cappuccino is the meal. A Marocchino is served in a clear glass demitasse cup and consists of a standard shot of espresso, topped by a sprinkling of cacao powder and finished with milk foam spooned over the top. A number of other variations, such as a Caffè Corretto which is served with either a shot of Sambuca liqueur or a selection of other intoxicants are also popular.
Your dream trip to Italy will be even more special if you develop a passion and skill to successfully order and Drink Espresso in Italy. No matter where you are in the world, according to the Italians, there Caffè is the best.
