What has become the go-to supplier of brewers yeast for many of San Diego’s top craft breweries – as well as those around the nation – White Labs Inc. in Miramar also crafts its own beer on-site, showcasing its latest experiments in the brewery’s tasting room since 2012. Unlike other brewery tasting rooms, White Labs focuses entirely on highlighting how different yeast strains can make such a big impact on a beer’s distinct flavor. Featured in the tasting room itself is a rotating list of 32 craft brews on tap and three on cask, as well as a science lesson about one of the most essential components in the brewmaking process. Identical batches of beer that range from IPAs to saisons to hefeweizens are brewed with the exact same recipe, using identical processes, but with different types of yeast. For beer connoisseurs who are ready to step up their brewing knowledge, White Labs’ tasting room is the best place to start! The tasting room is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.
