See Old Route 66 & 1932 Studebaker (Petrified Forest), Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona

Petrified Forest is the only national park that protects a section of Route 66 within its boundaries. Traces of an old roadbed and weathered telephone poles mark the path of this famous US roadway. One of the Route 66 sites in the park is the old Painted Desert Inn, which was a Route 66 landmark during the 1920s and 1930s. It was converted into a museum and bookstore after the Park Service took it over in the 1960s.
