Drive through Midland Railroad Tunnels, Buena Vista, Colorado

East of Buena Vista on Chaffee County Road 371 is the Midland Railroad Tunnels that were built for the now abandoned Colorado Midland Railroad, which ran between Colorado Springs, Leadville, and Aspen. Due to right-of-way issues with the existing Rio Grande road, the Colorado Midland bored a series of tunnels through cliffs lining the Arkansas River in the early 1880s.
