Malasada and Manapua
View Original Description
What they have in common is that they are both hand carried treats made from dough and stuffed with a variety of fillings. Malasadas are a type of donut of Portuguese origin, served warm, filled with custard, chocolate or fruit jams (some of the favorites are tropical fruit filled) then dusted in sugar or cinnamon. Manapuas are of Chinese origin, originally a pork filled bun, now prepared with a variety of stuffings such as curry chicken, beef and black sugar. Both can be purchased at food trucks, bakeries and specialty shops.
