The Cadiz Dunes Wilderness now contains a total of 19,935 acres and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. All of the Wilderness is in the state of California. In 1994 the Cadiz Dunes Wilderness became part of the now over 109 million acre National Wilderness Preservation System.
These small dunes, part of the Mojave Trails National Monument, were formed by north winds pushing sand off the Cadiz Dry Lake. The pristine nature of the Cadiz Dunes Wilderness and the beautiful spring display of unique plants and desert wildlife like the fringe-toed lizard have made the area a favorite for many photographers.
The entrance is far north-east starting from Route 66.
The road to get there is unmaintained be advised you should have a high-clearance vehicle with four-wheel drive there are no facilities here. The final 2.4 mile long access road is made of sand and has deep tire ruts in sections. Summer temperatures often exceed 115 degrees and sometimes go above 120. Bring your own water would recommend visiting during the winter months. Very remote absolutely no cell signal.
