Coyote Buttes South is a small part of the 112,500-acre Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness and have some of the most visually striking geologic sandstone formations in the world. Coyote Buttes South might not have as good a superb photographic opportunities as Coyote Buttes North, it does offer a less crouded enviroment. Coyote Buttes South has two trailheads: Pawhole and Cottonwood Cove. You must have a permit to visit Coyote Buttes South. Permits are available for day use only. There is a daily limit on permits. In December, January, and February Coyote Buttes South online permits rarely sell out quickly. Walk in permits are also available the day before you wish to hike via lottery at the Grand Staircase Escalante NM visitor center in Kanab. Unsold same-day or next day permits are available either in Kanab or at the Paria contact station near milepost 20 on Highway 89. Learn more about permits to visit Coyote Buttes South
