Crystal Cave, Sequoia National Park, California
View Original Description
NOTE: July 2025: Crystal Cave has reopened after four years of repairs the KNP Complex fires.
Crystal Cave is a marble karst cave in Sequoia National Park, in the U.S. state of California. It is one of at least 240 known caves in the park. Crystal Cave is an excellent example of a marble cavern. There is a moderately steep (but paved) half-mile trail from the parking area to the cave entrance. The trail through the cave is also one half mile. Because of fragile formations, the only way to visit the cave is on a guided tour. Tours are suitable for all ages. If you decide to see the cave, plan on spending about half a day traveling to the cave, walking to the entrance, and taking the 45-minute tour.
Visit Sequoia Parks Conservancy's Crystal Cave webpage for tour dates, important information about tours, and a link to purchase tickets. Tours are 50 minutes and tickets are available from our parner, the Sequoia Parks Conservancy. Tickets must be purchased in advance, online. Tickets do sell out, so it is recommended that you book three weeks in advance of your visit.
Tour dates are usually from Late May to early September. Tour times are from 9am to 3pm.
It is in the Giant Forest region, between the Ash Mountain entrance of the park and Giant Forest.
The cave is a constant 48 °F (9 °C), and only accessible by guided tour.
