Explore Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary, Thailand (UNESCO site)

Dong Yai Wildlife Santuary is situated north of Thap Lan National Park and upgraded to wildlife sanctuary in 1996. The total area is 312.77 square kilometres. Run through by highway 348 (Lahan Sai-Ta Phraya), the sanctuary was divided into two parts. Dong Yai Wildlife Sanctuary is home to over 200 wildlife species including 12 amphibians, 25 reptiles, 141 birds and 24 mammals species. Especially, there were reports of an endangered mammals, Kupri existence in the area of Dong Yai. The park is part of the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex UNESCO World Heritage Site based on “It is internationally important for the conservation of globally threatened and endangered mammal, bird and reptile species, among them 19 that are vulnerable, four that are endangered, and one that is critically endangered. The area contains substantial and important tropical forest ecosystems, which can provide a viable habitat for the long-term survival of these species”
