Explore Eibsee Lake, Bavaria
Lake Eibsee is situated at a whopping 1,000m above sea level at the foot of the mighty Zugspitze mountain. A trip to the Eibsee while on holiday to the region of Germany’s tallest mountain will be an absolute highlight! Take a short boat ride with a motor boat, named by the locals as a Reserl, or simply take a wander around the lake on foot. The turquoise coloured lake with eight small islands gets its name from the yew trees (called Eiben in German), which used to stretch for miles around the lake. Now the trees can only be found scattered around the lake in the odd places of nearby forests. Spend the night right on the lake in the Eibsee Hotel and start the day by enjoying a view of this wonder of nature at breakfast.
