Hike to
Lone Star Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
View Original Description
Lone Star Geyser Basin can be reached by various routes but the shortest and most enjoyable is reached by a 5-mile roundtrip hike that starts beside the Grand Loop Road 2 miles south of Old Faithful Village, next to the Firehole River. This trail is one of the few open to bicycles.
Lone Star Geyser erupts about every three hours. The eruptions are 45 feet high and last a nice half hour. The major eruption is usually preceded by a minor one 30 minutes before - so wait it out if the first one is not that good. There is a logbook, located in a cache near the geyser, for observations of geyser times and types of eruptions.
