Explore Miter Peninsula, Argentina

The Miter Peninsula is known as the territory located in the southeast of the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego. It includes colonies of birds and marine mammals, extensive peat bogs and wetlands. Land access to the Miter Peninsula is through two main roads: from the north, it is accessed from Provincial Route 21 (former complementary "A"), which culminates in the Estancia María Luisa. From there there is a path that borders the Atlantic coast to Estancia Policarpo, passable only by ATV type vehicles or on horseback. The trail continues with even greater difficulty to Thetis Bay. Numerous fords are practicable only at low tide, claiming a minimum of two to three downspouts to reach Estancia Policarpo with motorized vehicles; time that extends in case of going on horseback or on foot. The southern access is through Provincial Route 30 to the Moat River, bordering the Beagle Channel. The path from there is passable on horseback, with the difficulty of the Lucio López river ford. Both paths can be connected if you travel on foot, allowing you to complete the coastal circuit. Maritime access to the Miter peninsula is frequent by ships with sporadic transit, which usually stop at Falsa Cove (Estancia Policarpo), Thetis Bay and Buen Suceso Bay. The ships of the Ushuaia Naval Base go to the latter every 40 days during tasks to change the crew of the Buen Suceso Naval Station.
