Hike to Shoshone Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Shoshone Geyser Basin has a bunch of little steaming hot spirngs and geysers to check out. Located on the western shore of Shoshone Lake, you either have to paddle or hike down the Howard Eaton Trail from Old Faithful or Lone Star Trail to see the Shoshone Geyser Basin. You can do a long 17-19 mile day hike that crosses the Continental Divide at Grant's Pass to Shoshone Geyser Basin from Grant Village but make sure to leave earlier in the day. The best trrail is to park at the Falls trailhead and hike the Lone Star trail in (3.5 miles past the Old Faithful overpass along the Old Faithful-West Thumb road). The Eaton trail meets up with the Lone Star trail, but there are big ups and downs with elevation on the Eaton. The Lone Star trail is mostly PAVED! and that it is a bike trail too. You should also consider camping in the basin so you can have a day to look around. Even try fishing for beautiful brown trout in one of the springs that flow into the river - lots of fish. This basin has no boardwalks, and extreme caution should be exercised when travelling through it. Trails in the basin must be used. Remote thermal areas, such as this, should be approached with respect, knowledge, and care. Be sure to emphasize personal safety and resource protection when entering a backcountry basin.
