Explore Spirit Mountain Wilderness, Nevada

Visible for miles around, Spirit Mountain is so-named because it is held sacred to the Native American cultures found in this area. The mountain plays a prominent role in the religion and mythology of the Yuman tribes of the lower Colorado River. They believe it is their spiritual birthplace and that the spirits of their ancestors dwell there. Treat this area with particular respect. Rock climbers will be excited to hear that the mountain top is made of granite and offers a multitude of routes to the top for all levels of expertise. Activities: Hiking Camping Rock Climbing Horseback Riding Hunting (Seasonal; License Required) Points of Interest: Spirit Mountain Sacred Yuman Site Spirit Mountain’s Granite Peak (Rock Climbing) Access: Turn left onto Christmas Tree Pass Road about 8 miles after Searchlight, NV on highway 95 going towards Boulder City. Head east for about 8 miles. The road will eventually cross a pass. The mountain on the north side of the pass and still slightly east is Spirit Mountain; the mountain on the south side of the pass is unnamed and has antennae on its summit. TIPS: All motor vehicles must be licensed and insured for highway use. Vehicle camping is permitted at designated backcountry campsites only. Driving off of designated roads is prohibited. Maximum stay in any backcountry camping area is 15 days. Group size is limited to 12 people. Backpackers may camp anywhere unless the area is posted as a "No Camping" area. Campsites must be at least a 1/2 mile off of designated roads and 100 ft. from any spring, water hole, seep or other water source. Maximum stay in any backcountry camping area is 15 days. Hunting is allowed except in "No Hunting" zones. Target shooting is prohibited throughout Lake Mead NRA.
