The Cave of the Hanging Snakes (Cueva de las Serpientes Colgantes) is near the village of Kantemo, Mexico. The yellow-red rat snake (Pseudelaphe flavirufa) is a small forest snake that normally hunts rodents, lizards, and other small animals in the ground. But at this cave the snakes are living in the ceiling and high up on the walls of the cave to eat the bats in the cave. The cave near Kantemo has a population of about 70 rat snakes that learned to catch bats on the complete darkness. They hang off the top sensing when bats pass by. The cave is also home to a few species of aquatic animals and a group of invertebrates feeding off guano and each other.
