Birding at Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, Oregon

The Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife refuge located in southwestern Klamath County on the shores of Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon. The refuge is only accessible by boat and boasts a year-round marked canoe trail. Hundreds of thousands of waterfowl visit the area during migration. Som of the birds include: American bald eagle, American white pelican, Black Tern, Canada Goose, Eared Grebe, Gadwall, Great Egret, Osprey, Northern Pintail, Snowy Egret and Western Grebe. The endangered Spotted Owls, Mountain Quail and a variety of woodpeckers can also be found at the refuge. It was established in 1928 and contains some 17,193 acres (6,958 ha) of freshwater marshes. The refuge is part of the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex and is administered along with the other refuges of the complex from common offices in Tulelake, California.
