The East Cape Offshore Fishing Tournament, traditionally held during the last full week in July, is a competitive fishing contest with 4 fishermen teams competing for aggregate and largest fish catches of Dorado, Tuna and Billfish. The tournament is staged over 3 days from the shores of the Hotel Buena Vista in Los Cabos with international teams testing their skills against anglers from around the globe. The East Cape Tournament is a qualifying event for the IGFA Offshore World Championship. Besides the substantial prize money, the winning team receives an automatic invitation from the International Game Fish Association to the Championship tournament. The tournament is also considered a warm up for the annual Black & Blue Marlin Tournament.
The East Cape Offshore requires a team base entry fee of $1,200US with a maximum investment of $7,800US covering every possible prize pool. The East Cape of Baja California or “Cabo del Este” proclaims itself as “The World’s Greatest Fishtrap” as a nod to the reality these waters in the Sea of Cortez has been the location for a number of world record catches over the years.
